The CIA’s Historical Collections Division (HCD) will hold a symposium at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, CA to examine newly declassified intelligence covering the 1973 Arab-Israeli War.  The symposium entitled “Nixon and the Role of Intelligence in the 1973 Arab-Israeli War” highlights the Agency’s publication of more than 400 declassified documents—200 released for the first time—in a collection that includes “Situation Reports” prepared daily during the crisis.

Speakers will include Charles E. Allen (former Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis, Department of Homeland Security); William Quandt (National Security Council staff member in the Nixon and Carter administrations between 1972–1974 and 1977-1979); Andy Liepman (former Deputy Director, National Counterterrorism Center); Richard Kovar (former chief of CIA’s Middle East Task Force); and Emile A. Nakhleh, PhD (former Senior Intelligence Officer, Research Professor, University of New Mexico).
