On November 22, 2024, the Richard Nixon Foundation’s Distinguished Speaker Series featured remarks from former U.S. Congressman Chris Cox on his newly released biography, Woodrow Wilson: The Light Withdrawn.
More than a century after Woodrow Wilson’s two-term presidency, Congressman Cox explained why it is time to take a new assessment of President Wilson’s legacy and his role in the long national struggle for racial equality and women’s voting rights. During his remarks, he shared highlights of what he learned over the fourteen years he spent researching and writing his book, even providing relevant connections to President Richard Nixon.
In addition to his public service, Cox spent over two decades practicing law and is currently a Senior Scholar in Residence at the University of California, Irvine. He was introduced by Richard Nixon Foundation member Steve Pizula, who, along with his wife Holly, is a supporter of the Nixon Foundation’s American Civics Campaign. Through the campaign the Foundation aims to expand the impact of its Distinguished Speaker Series and become a leader in civics education.
