On December 2, 2024, the Richard Nixon Foundation’s Distinguished Speaker series featured Captain Sam Brown, a Purple Heart recipient and former Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Nevada.

In his first public event since the 2024 election, Captain Brown shared his inspiring story of overcoming being severely burned in Afghanistan in 2008 while serving in the U.S. Army. Brown emphasized the importance of hope in overcoming challenges and finding purpose in life after trauma which he wrote about in his memoir, Alive Day: Finding Hope and Purpose after Losing Everything,  published in August 2024.

Brown shared how his commitment to service helped him overcome a painful recovery journey and how he has found purpose through starting a small business to support veterans. Brown also shared his recent experience campaigning for the U.S. Senate and what his future role may be as a voice in conservative leadership.
