The Docent Guild has lost its First Lady Judy Lucas. Judy personified the definition of a lady. She was a woman of refinement and gentle manners. Judy was a member of the Docent Guild for eleven years. She was very active in the leadership of the Guild serving as Hospitality Chair, Standards Chair, First Vice President and President. She also served on several committees.
Judy was born and raised in New Orleans; Judy graduated from Sophie Newcomb College-Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Mrs. Edward Nixon was one year behind Judy at Sophie Newcomb) With a degree in elementary education, she taught in the public schools for ten years in New Orleans and later Jackson Mississippi. Judy changed careers in 1977 and moved into the business world. After 21 years in personnel, Judy had gained much experience in interacting with a variety of people; experience, which she said, helped her as a Docent. Upon taking early retirement from her job in personnel, Judy moved to Corona in February of 1999. She wanted to be close to her daughter Shelly son-in-law Tony and her most favorite person in the world her grandson Logan.
Judy became a Docent because she thought it would be a nice way to give back to the community. She found the Library fascinating and loved meeting people from all over the world. The last time I talked to her she wanted to know all about what was going on at the Library.
We will all remember Judy for her kindness. She remembered everyone’s name and never passed by without saying hello and asking how you were doing. Her courage and dignity will inspire us all.
Just remember to get your nails and hair done ladies. Judy will be watching!
