The National Book Festival, introduced by former First Lady Laura Bush, sponsored by the Library of Congress, and held since 2001 every September on the National Mall, has long been established as one of the country’s premiere events for authors to meet readers. This year, David and Julie Eisenhower, as c0-authors of Going Home To Glory about the last years of David’s grandfather, will be among the writers present.
At 5:20 pm on Saturday, September 22, David and Julie will appear at the Festival in a discussion with Jean Edward Smith, professor of political science at Marshall University and famed biographer of Gen. Lucius Clay, Chief Justice John Marshall, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Professor Smith’s new book is Eisenhower In War And Peace, which arrived last February in the midst of a bumper crop of books about the thirty-fourth President, but has already been hailed by many reviewers as at least the equal of the late Stephen Ambrose’s two-volume life of Ike. Before this talk, at 3:30, the Eisenhowers and Professor Smith will be signing their books. It’s a must-see event for any Nixon (or Eisenhower) fan in or near the DC area.
