Why They Wore It: The Politics and Pop Culture of First Ladies’ Fashion has come to a close after six popular weeks.
This seven-part series featured lectures from six knowledgeable titans of the fashion industry, including those who designed gowns for First Ladies – and those who wrote about, critically reviewed, and drew attention to them.
Throughout the series, the evolution of the role of the First Lady was examined with lively question and answer sessions. The special exhibit featured a stunning display of nearly two-dozen dresses and gowns. The exhibit also examined the impact of Pat Nixon on the role of the First Lady, whose subtle yet significant fashion choices had the most notable impact of any First Lady on the nexus of politics and popular culture.
Guest curator Carl Anthony, America’s expert on first families, wrote a book to accompany the exhibit. Pick up your signed copy HERE.
