Dwight Chapin launched his new memoir, The President’s Man, at the Nixon Library on Thursday, February 17 in an event 50 years in the making.
At the age of 21, Chapin joined Richard Nixon’s 1962 gubernatorial campaign. He went on to become Nixon’s personal aide during the 1968 campaign and Appointments Secretary in the White House. As Chapin describes, “my credential became the ability to understand what he [Nixon] wanted, when he wanted it and to deliver it.”
The sell-out East Room event took place on the 50th anniversary of day on which President and Mrs. Nixon departed Washington on their historic trip to China— one of the many history-making events of the Nixon administration in which Chapin played a role.
Former Nixon aide Frank Gannon joined Chapin on stage, in-conversation.
