On June 25th, the Nixon Library hosted a 5K Run in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of President Nixon’s signing of Title IX. The race course began and ended at the Nixon Library and followed Yorba Linda’s El Cajon Trail. Participants were encouraged to to wear their favorite gear supporting girl sports. Members of the Fullerton Rangers Girls Soccer Club, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Princess Court and local Girl Scouts participated in the opening ceremonies. Opening remarks were delivered by Yorba Linda Major Carlos Rodriguez. The festivities included a vendor fair and tours of the Nixon Library.
This family-friendly event was part of Southern California’s leading commemoration of Title IX that included the grand opening of a new exhibit and panels with former Commerce Secretary Barbara Franklin and three legendary Gold Medal Olympians.
Fifty years ago, few knew just how consequential Title IX would be. Now it has created a legacy that continues to impact the lives of girls and women across the nation.
