On October 13, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Governor of South Carolina took to the Nixon Library’s East Room stage for a wide-ranging conversation of inspiration as part of the Nixon Foundation’s American civics programming.
Ambassador Haley was joined onstage by Blake Kernen, a Washington, DC-based author, speaker, and nonprofit director to discuss the stories of leadership, courage and tenacity found throughout her new book If You Want Something Done: Leadership Lessons from Bold Women. The bestselling book weaves inspirational profiles of trailblazing women from around the world with her own biographical experience to inspire the next generation of leaders.
The message in If You Want Something Done does not take a partisan stance, but offers encouragement for anyone striving to go from ordinary to extraordinary. Ambassador Haley shared with the audience, “The most important thing you can do is learn to push through fear.” Her advice for success is to go against the popular trend of playing the victim, and instead, act like you deserve to be there.
The conversation covered everything from Ambassador Haley’s personal experiences as the first minority female governor in America and working with President Trump at the United Nations to her views on current world affairs and charting a path forward for America.
