Portraits of Courage Exhibit Hero Spotlight: Leslie Zimmerman
Sergeant Leslie Zimmerman– Joined the Army right out of high school at age 18. Serving as a medic, she deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. When returning to civilian life, Leslie was diagnosed with PTS and depression. Through counseling and medication, supplemented with mountain-bike riding, running and with lots of support from her husband and children, Leslie keeps going through the grief and heartache. In 2016, she published an inspirational children’s book called Dream Big!

Portraits of Courage will be on exhibit at the Nixon Library for its West Coast debut through May 19, 2024, thanks to the generosity of Lisa Argyros / Argyros Family Foundation. Tickets to the special exhibit are included with admission to the Nixon Library.
Portraits of Courage by President George W. Bush is on loan from the Argyros Collection at the George W. Bush Presidential Center, a non-profit whose work includes helping veterans and their families make successful transitions to civilian life.
