On August 9, Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court Neil Gorsuch visited the Nixon Library to talk about his latest book Over Ruled: The Human Toll of Too Much Law.  This timely book, co-written with Janie Nitze, uses stories of regular Americans who find themselves dealing with the government to demonstrate the current state of today’s legal system.

Justice Gorsuch appeared on-stage in the East Room of the Nixon Library in-conversation with Jim Byron, President and CEO of the Richard Nixon Foundation.

Using relatable stories and easy to understand legal explanations, Justice Gorsuch explained the alarming recent growth of the administrative state, why this matters and what we can do about it. He shared statistics that demonstrate the decline in civics education but explains why he remains optimistic about the future of America, especially as we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution. He believes in the power of individuals to preserve liberty, reminding the audience that “It is amazing what ordinary people can do to affect change.”
