The war in Ukraine is challenging the world’s balance of power for the first time since the fall of the Soviet Union. On April 19th, a panel at the Nixon Library will offer a unique perspective on the ongoing conflict.

 Sean Penn recently returned from Ukraine where he was working on a documentary about the Russian invasion. While in the country, he visited the frontlines and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before evacuating to the Polish border. In addition to his award-winning work as an actor, filmmaker and author, Penn is known for his humanitarian efforts including founding the non-profit CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Ensuring millions of people in the most vulnerable communities had access to Covid testing and vaccinations, the organization’s latest efforts include setting up operations in Poland to support Ukrainian refugees. 

 Nixon Seminar Co-chair and former National Security Adviser Ambassador Robert C. O’Brien will join Penn to discuss the many ongoing geopolitical implications of the war. Prior to his service as National Security Adviser in the Trump Administration, O’Brien served as the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs and, before that, a U.S. Representative to the UN General Assembly.

 Fox News Chief Political Anchor Bret Baier will interview Penn and O’Brien together in the East Room of the Nixon Library. Baier anchors Special Report with Bret Baier, the top-rated cable news program in its time slot.

 Tickets to this program include lunch and are available for $125 per person. Nixon Foundation Members are $100 per person. Ticket holders should arrive at the Nixon Library by 11:30 am and the luncheon will begin at 12:00 pm.
